Foster

Fostering is an incredibly rewarding activity

Bosque Buddies is a foster-based animal rescue. As such, we rely on our network of fosters to allow us to save animals. Learn more about what it means to be a foster here or contact us for more information. If you think you’d like to become a foster, feel free to fill out the foster form linked here. A representative from the rescue will reach out with more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to be a foster family?

Bosque Buddies does not have a physical location with a suite of kennels like a typical animal shelter. We also don’t take in animals when we don’t have room. As such, being a foster family means committing to taking an animal into your home and giving them a safe, comfortable place to live until they can find their forever home. Fostering also helps the dogs become more adoptable. When dogs spend time in a household, they’re able to relax and often develop a better disposition than they would in a traditional shelter/kennel situation. Foster parents can help a dog learn how to integrate with a loving family – a skill that is typically critical for a successful adoption into a permanent home.

What supplies do I need to become a foster?

Only a loving home. Bosque Buddies will provide you with a crate, food, toys, medicine, anything you need. We will also be able to provide / arrange any necessary veterinary care and transport with you.

What if I fall in love with my foster?

That is the best news we could hope for. Many of us now have permanent family members that were once a “foster fail.” If you fall in love and it’s a good match, we will happily work with you to complete the full adoption process.

How long do I keep my foster pet?

We are hopeful that all fosters stay in their foster homes until they are adopted. As a foster-based rescue, we depend on our fosters to help us save lives. Plus, our experience tells us that it’s generally better to not bounce animals around from place to place. The love and safety of their foster home – your home – will help them feel more confident once they find their forever home.

How many fosters can I have at one time?

As many as you can handle! Seriously, though, we want our fosters to only take on what they feel comfortable with. If you want one at a time, great! If you’re up for a mom with babies, perfect! Do you love the old babies? We love saving the old ones.

Are you up for a challenge? There are plenty of those looking for help too, either medical needs or that need behavioral help. We will find you the perfect foster for your home and lifestyle.

What if it doesn’t work out?

All of us at the rescue come from a fostering background and realize that not every household will be the best fit for every pet. Some foster pets might not be comfortable with existing children or pets, and we want everyone to be comfortable. If a fostering situation doesn’t work out for any reason, we will help find the perfect home for the animal you fostered – we are committed to supporting them for life. We appreciate you for helping us out, and if you are open to it we can always find another pet that would be a better match!
